Are the famous pizzerias worth the queue?

For two people at Da Michele, two pizzas and the cover come to €15 before drinks. At Concettina the same two margheritas cost €24. So the queue at Da Michele saves you about €9 against a booked table there. Whether an hour of your trip is worth €9 is your call; half an hour at opening almost certainly is.

• Da Michele. Michelin describes the system: numbered tickets, then you wait to be called; the pizzeria does not take reservations. In June 2024 Fanpage reported a second Da Michele room at the corner of Via Sersale and Via Pietro Colletta, 84 seats, that takes bookings. Michelin's 2026 listing mentions the second room too. The line you see in the lane is for the original.
• Sorbillo. You give your name at the door and wait in Via dei Tribunali. Scatti di Gusto's half hour in July 2026 is the only dated figure we found. The pizzeria is closed on Sundays.
• 50 Kalò. Dissapore's 2023 review listed "huge queues at every sitting" among the cons. Scatti di Gusto, on a Monday in September 2024, found the square packed but the line "moving very fast". Neither gave minutes, so neither do we.

• At opening. Da Michele opens at 11 a.m. every day, Sorbillo at noon from Monday to Saturday. The March 2026 blog advises weekdays at opening or late afternoon, when the line is much shorter.
• Mid-afternoon. Da Michele and Sorbillo serve straight through the afternoon, and the lull between lunch and dinner is the easy slot. 50 Kalò's full hours were not readable online, so phone first.
• For the ranking. 50 Kalò is No. 5 in Italy in the 2026 50 Top Pizza guide. If you want one pizza from the rankings, this is the one worth waiting for.
• For the history. Da Michele's room and its four-pizza menu are part of the city's story, and it is the cheapest of the famous names.

Neither Da Michele nor Sorbillo appears in the 2026 50 Top Pizza Italy top 50 or its list of excellent pizzerias. Several places that do can be booked, or rarely need to be:

• 50 Kalò, Piazza della Repubblica 2. Same pizzeria, second room, takes bookings.
• Palazzo Petrucci Pizzeria, Piazza San Domenico Maggiore 5. No. 3 in Italy in 2026, in the old town, takes bookings.
• Concettina ai Tre Santi, in the Sanità. On the excellent list; books by phone. Go for the fried pizza; the €12 margherita is dear.
• Starita, Materdei. On the excellent list; no bookings and no published waits, but the montanara (€8.50) is the reason to go. Closed Mondays.
• Da Attilio, in the Pignasecca market. On the excellent list; margherita €6.50 in 2025. Closed Sundays.

1. Get your number or give your name first, then look at the wait. At Da Michele, standing in the lane without a ticket does not put you in the queue.
2. Ask how long. Staff at the door know better than any website.
3. If the answer is an hour, walk to a bookable room. Da Michele's second room is on the same street.
4. Do not plan the famous three for Saturday at 8 p.m. The Da Michele page says it plainly: eat somewhere else then.
