Is the Campania Artecard worth it?
The Campania Artecard is the region's own sightseeing pass, run by Scabec for Regione Campania. Three versions suit a short trip: Napoli 3 days at €27, Campania 3 days at €41 and Campania 7 days at €43. Each gives a fixed number of free entries, then reduced tickets. The two 3-day cards also cover public transport. The 7-day card does not.
The card's site still labels its prices as valid "from November 30, 2023", and its MANN page quotes a €15 ticket that is now €20. So we redid the sums with the prices the sites charge in 2026. The result is clear. The card pays off for adults who will pay full price at three or more state sites. It wastes money for children, for EU citizens under 25 and for anyone whose list is mostly Cappella Sansevero, catacombs and churches.
At a glance
- Cards and prices
- Napoli 3 days €27; Campania 3 days €41; Campania 7 days €43. Ages 18 to 24: €16 and €30 for the two 3-day cards.
- Free entries
- 3 on the Napoli card (Naples sites only), 2 on Campania 3 days and 5 on Campania 7 days, from a regional list. Reduced tickets after that.
- Transport
- Included on both 3-day cards (UnicoCampania metro, funiculars, buses, Cumana, Circumvesuviana). Not on the 7-day card. Alibus, SITA coast buses and the Vesuvius bus are excluded.
- Pompeii
- The card gives the Pompeii Express ticket with no booking. The Villa of the Mysteries costs €8 extra.
- Not covered
- Cappella Sansevero, Napoli Sotterranea, the Vesuvius crater, Capri. Catacombs and Galleria Borbonica: reduced price only.
- Verdict in one line
- Buy it for three or more full-price state sites. Skip it if you are under 18 or an EU citizen under 25.
In this guide
The three cards, side by side
| Card | Price | Free entries | Transport |
|---|---|---|---|
| Napoli 3 days | €27 (18 to 24: €16) | 3, from a list of Naples sites | Unico network in Naples, including the city section of the Circumvesuviana |
| Campania 3 days | €41 (18 to 24: €30) | 2, from the regional list | Unico network across Campania, including trains to Pompei and Ercolano |
| Campania 7 days | €43 | 5, from the regional list | None |
After the free entries you pay reduced prices, which the card sells as savings of up to 50%. Two published examples: the MANN charges Artecard holders €10 once their free entries are used, and the Reggia di Caserta charges €7.
The 3-day cards run on calendar days, not hours. The card's own example: activate it on Monday at 11 a.m. and it expires on Wednesday at 11:59 p.m. You activate it in the app or at the first turnstile or ticket desk, and the timer cannot be undone or paused. So start it on the morning of your busiest day, never at 6 p.m. The 7-day card starts at the first site you enter.
Transport on the 3-day cards is "limited to reaching the sites included", and some lines are excluded outright: the Alibus airport bus, SITA's buses to Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi, the EAV bus from Pompei up Vesuvius and the Campania Express tourist train, which is suspended from October 1, 2026 anyway.
What counts, what is only discounted, what is out
- Free entry choices (regional list): Pompeii, Herculaneum, Oplontis, Stabiae, the MANN, the Reggia di Caserta, Paestum, Villa Rufolo in Ravello and the four Campi Flegrei sites.
- Naples list (all cards): the MANN, Capodimonte, Palazzo Reale, Castel Nuovo, Castel Sant'Elmo, the Certosa di San Martino, the Treasure of San Gennaro, the Madre and others. Pio Monte della Misericordia appears only on the 7-day card's list.
- Pompeii rules: the card gives the Pompeii Express ticket, the ancient city only. The Villa of the Mysteries and Villa of Diomedes need an €8 supplement. No booking is needed; cardholders use the Piazza Esedra entrance, reserved for them and groups, and collect a named ticket on showing ID.
- Reduced price only: the Catacombs of San Gennaro (€9 instead of €13) and the Galleria Borbonica (20% off the Standard route), both since January 1, 2023.
- Not covered: the Cappella Sansevero, Napoli Sotterranea and Capri's sites. The card's pages say access to the Vesuvius crater is suspended. The Napoli card's page says Santa Chiara stopped accepting it on August 1, 2023, although one list still shows it.
- Campi Flegrei: you must book a free Artecard ticket on the Musei Italiani app first.
The sums: three days in the city (Napoli card, €27)
Transport priced at ANM's own tickets, which do not change on October 1, 2026: €1.30 a ride, €4.50 a day.
| Plan | Without the card | With the card | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| MANN, Capodimonte and Palazzo Reale, three day tickets | €20 + €15 + €15 + €13.50 = €63.50 | €27 | Save €36.50 |
| MANN, Sansevero and Sant'Elmo, two day tickets | €20 + €12 + €5 + €9 = €46 | €27 + €12 Sansevero = €39 | Save €7 |
| MANN and Sansevero, all on foot | €20 + €12 = €32 | €27 + €12 = €39 | Lose €7 |
Mind the closing days before you plan three museums in three days: the MANN shuts on Tuesdays, Capodimonte and Palazzo Reale on Wednesdays. The MANN's mosaic rooms and Secret Cabinet are closed until November 30, 2026, and two of Palazzo Reale's best halls from October 1, 2026.
The sums: Pompeii, Herculaneum and the MANN (Campania 3 days, €41)
| Item | Without the card | With the card |
|---|---|---|
| Pompeii Express | €20 | Free entry 1 |
| Herculaneum (at the ticket office) | €16 | Free entry 2 |
| MANN | €20 | €10 |
| Circumvesuviana: Pompei Scavi return €6.60, Ercolano Scavi return €5.20; metro €2.60 | €14.40 | Included |
| Total | €70.40 | €41 + €10 = €51 |
That is €19.40 saved per adult. If you want Pompeii's suburban villas, the gap narrows: without the card you would buy Pompeii+ at €25 instead of Express, with it you pay the €8 supplement. The saving drops to €16.40. It is still the best use of this card, and the two-day ruins itinerary fits inside it.
The sums: a week of day trips (Campania 7 days, €43)
Five free entries at full 2026 prices: Pompeii Express €20, Herculaneum €16, MANN €20, Reggia di Caserta €18, Paestum €15 (March to November). That is €89 against €43, a €46 saving, the biggest on any card. You pay trains separately either way: €4 each way to Caserta, €7.60 to Paestum. From December to February Paestum drops to €10 and the saving to €41.
The 7-day card suits a week built on day trips, not a city break. Caserta's park closed on September 23, 2026 after overnight wind, so check it before you spend a free entry there.
Who should skip it
- EU citizens aged 18 to 24. State sites charge you €2. Pompeii, Herculaneum and the MANN come to €6, against €30 for the youth card.
- Under-18s. Entry to state museums and archaeological sites is free for everyone under 18.
- Sansevero-and-churches trips. The Veiled Christ, Napoli Sotterranea and the Duomo are not on the card; see the budget guide for cheaper ways round.
- First-Sunday visitors. State sites are free that day, and the card gives no priority entry on free days.
Buying and using it
Buy online, in the free >artecard app or at an Artecard point. Since September 4, 2026 an Artecard infopoint has been open at Piazza del Gesù 7. The digital pass can take about 10 minutes to appear, so buy it the night before. The 3-day cards show two QR codes, one for transport and one for museums. At Herculaneum you activate the card at the ticket office; at Caserta, at the infopoint on Piazza Carlo di Borbone. If you bought the card through GetYourGuide, the voucher has to be converted into the pass first.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Campania Artecard worth it for Pompeii?
Yes, if you add at least one more paid site. The €41 Campania 3-day card covers Pompeii Express and Herculaneum and the trains to both; with the MANN at the €10 card price, it saved €19.40 against paying separately. It gives Express, so the Villa of the Mysteries costs €8 extra.
Does the Campania Artecard include public transport?
The two 3-day cards do: UnicoCampania metro, funiculars, buses, Cumana, Circumflegrea and Circumvesuviana, in Naples only on the Napoli card and across the region on the Campania card. The 7-day card has no transport. The Alibus airport bus, SITA coast buses and the Vesuvius bus are excluded.
Does the Artecard cover the Cappella Sansevero?
No. The Veiled Christ chapel is a private museum and is not on any Artecard list. Book its €12 ticket separately.
When does a 3-day Artecard expire?
At 11:59 p.m. on the third calendar day. Activated on Monday at 11 a.m., it runs until Wednesday night. The timer cannot be paused once started.
Do I need to book Pompeii with the Artecard?
No. The card's Pompeii page says booking is not required: go to one of the entrances, preferably Piazza Esedra, which is reserved for cardholders and groups, and collect a named ticket with your ID.
Is the Artecard worth it for students?
Not for EU citizens aged 18 to 24, who pay €2 at state sites. The €16 and €30 youth cards only make sense for visitors in that age band who pay full price.
