Capri, Ischia or Procida?
Short answer: for one day from Naples, Procida is the easiest and Capri the most spectacular. Ischia is the big island, and it needs two days or one focused plan. Our verdict pages rate Capri and Procida worth it as day trips and Ischia conditional.
All fares below come from the ferry operators' own rate pages, checked September 30, 2026, and the return times from Caremar's timetable for Thursday, October 8, 2026. Winter timetables thin out from early November, so check the day before. For how to buy tickets and which pier is which, see our ferries to the islands page.

What a day costs, per person
| Island | Fast boats both ways | Landing | Island transport | Total before sights |

Then the sights. On Capri: Villa Jovis €6, the Monte Solaro chairlift €15 return, Villa San Michele €12, and the Blue Grotto €18 at the cave (€6 entry plus €12 rowboat) on top of a boat from Marina Grande from €25. On Ischia: the Castello Aragonese €15, or a day at Giardini Poseidon for €50. Procida's main pleasures, Marina Corricella, Terra Murata and the beaches, cost nothing to walk.
Capri: for the view, if you start early
Choose Capri for a first visit, for cliffs and color, and in October, when crowds thin and boats still run often. Take a boat before 9:30 a.m., split the day between Capri town and Anacapri, and come back after 5 p.m. The best-value hour on the island is Villa Jovis: €6, few people, a Roman palace over both gulfs, at the end of a 45-minute uphill walk.
Seeing the island from the water is the best part of the day. The €25 boat tour from Marina Grande does it without a package; our tour or ferry page does the arithmetic. Treat the Blue Grotto as a maybe: it closes whenever the sea is rough, and from October 16 it opens only 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The landing contribution is €5 a person to October 31 and €2.50 from November 1; you pay it once, with your ticket out.
Procida: the best single day
Procida is 4.1 km² (1.6 square miles), Italian Capital of Culture in 2022, and made for walking. The hydrofoil takes 35 to 40 minutes, island buses cost €1.20, and the crowds are a fraction of Capri's. Go on a clear day, walk up to Terra Murata, down to the Corricella for lunch, and out to the beaches of Chiaia or Ciraccio.
The catch is the return. On the October 8 timetable the last Caremar hydrofoil to Naples leaves at 4:50 p.m.; after that you are on the 8:15 p.m. ferry, about an hour. From the Campi Flegrei side, Pozzuoli is closer: ferry €9.50 or hydrofoil €10.70, 20 to 30 minutes, and the Cumana railway to Pozzuoli has run in full again since September 11, 2026, with a new station.
Ischia: give it two days
Ischia is large, and a day trip spends much of its time on boats and buses. With one day, pick one thing. The Castello Aragonese, on its own rock off Ischia Ponte, is worth €15 and the crossing by itself: 2,500 years of history, a lift to the top, and views over three islands. Go before October ends, while it stays open into the evening; it closes each year from January 7 to early March.
For hot pools, Giardini Poseidon at Citara costs €50 a day and closes for the season on October 31, 2026. It makes sense if you are staying on Ischia; as a day trip from Naples, it is €50 plus about €45 in boats for a few hours in the water. Children under 12 are not allowed in its thermal area.
Two islands in one trip works well: Caremar's Ischia to Procida crossing costs €9.40 by ferry or €10.50 by hydrofoil.
Which island for which traveler
- First trip, one island day: Capri, with Villa Jovis or Anacapri and the €25 boat around the coast.
- You hate crowds, or it is your second trip: Procida.
- You want a beach and a slow day: Procida in one day; Ischia with a night or two.
- Thermal pools: Ischia, and stay over.
- Tightest budget: Procida by slow ferry, about €32.50 with landing charge and a bus day ticket.
- Families: Procida's short crossing, or Capri with a boat trip. See Naples with kids for island prices by age.
- Staying in Sorrento: Capri, 22 to 32 minutes by Caremar fast ferry for €17.40.

Procida is easier, cheaper and calmer: 35 to 40 minutes by hydrofoil, about €42 for the day before food. Capri is more spectacular and busier, about €53 by Caremar before sights. For a first trip with good weather, Capri; otherwise Procida.
Can you do Ischia as a day trip from Naples?

What time is the last ferry back from Procida or Capri?
On Caremar's October 8, 2026 timetable: Procida hydrofoil 4:50 p.m. and ferry 8:15 p.m.; Capri fast ferry 8:17 p.m. NLG's last jet from Capri leaves at 6:45 p.m. Check your date, as winter timetables change.
Is there a landing fee on Ischia?
Caremar lists landing charges only for Capri (€5) and Procida (€3.50), not for Ischia.
