50 Kalò is Ciro Salvo's pizzeria at Piazza Sannazaro 201/b in Mergellina, where the seafront road meets the hydrofoil port. The name joins 50, the number for bread in Neapolitan numerology, to kalò, from the Greek for good. Salvo makes the classic style: a soft, large disc with a tall, airy rim from a very wet dough. On the 50 Top Pizza Italia 2026 list it is No. 5 in the country; the only Naples pizzeria above it is Palazzo Petrucci Pizzeria at No. 3. On the world list for 2026 it is No. 14.
You cannot book at Mergellina. Michelin's 2026 listing says the pizzeria works on a first-come basis, and when it is busy you leave your name and are called back. The second 50 Kalò, at Piazza della Repubblica 2, accepts bookings.

Why it tops the lists
Salvo is known for hydration: a dough with a lot of water, which bakes into a light, open rim. Scatti di Gusto scored his marinara 8 out of 10 in its ranking of the city's best marinaras and wrote that it beat his margherita. Its advice for a first visit was to choose among the marinara, the cosacca and the margherita, which here comes with a dusting of Parmigiano Reggiano in the old style.
Toppings lean on named suppliers, and oil goes on after the bake. The menu is classic rather than experimental. The other Naples names high on the 2026 list are Palazzo Petrucci Pizzeria (No. 3) and La Notizia (No. 12). See our pizza shortlist.
What it costs
50 Kalò does not publish a menu with prices online, and its website blocks automated visitors, so we could not read one. The most detailed published list is Scatti di Gusto's February 2023 review:
- Fried starters: potato crocchè, frittatina of bucatini and parmesan-cream supplì, €2.50 each.
- Marinara rinforzata: €6.50.
- Margherita with buffalo mozzarella: €7.50.
- Montanara rossa (fried then baked) and fried ripieno: €8.50.
- Top of the menu: sausage and friarielli and similar, €9.50.
Prices have risen since. A Naples food-tour guide published in 2026 says to expect about €10 for the buffalo margherita. Budget €8 to €10 a pizza and you will not be surprised.
Timing your visit
Arrive before the doors open for lunch or dinner and you are likely to be in the first seating. Leave your name if there is a list and stay nearby: Mergellina's seafront and the ferry quay are across the road. It pairs naturally with an evening Lungomare walk, which ends here, or with a trip out to Posillipo.
Pizzas are big. Neapolitans order one each, and asking for a whole pizza to be sliced for sharing marks you as a visitor.
Other 50 Kalò addresses
Besides the two Naples addresses, there are branches in Rome and London. The London one ranks on its own, No. 23 on the 2026 world list. None of that changes the plan in Naples: go to Piazza Sannazaro for the original, or Piazza della Repubblica if you need a booking.
