Capri boat tour or just the ferry?

Add the Blue Grotto to the do-it-yourself day and you reach €91 with the fast ferry, still €59 under the €150 tour that includes it. The Worldtours price was the one shown for November dates; October may cost more. Caremar adds 12% (at least €1) to tickets bought before the day of travel and €1 online, so a fast-ferry ticket bought ahead costs about €24.08.

The official Capri landing contribution is €5 from April to October and €2.50 from November to March, collected with your ferry ticket. Some listings charge €10 or €15 under similar names; those are the operator's fees, not the island's. Read the exclusions before you compare headline prices.

Two operators sell round-island trips from Marina Grande. Motoscafisti di Capri, in business since 1955, runs a trip of about 2 hours from Pier 0 that stops at the Blue Grotto, for €25 online. Laser Capri leaves Pier 23 about every 30 minutes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Laser refunds you if the sea cancels the boat, but not if only the grotto is shut.

Neither price includes the grotto itself: €6 entry and €12 for the rowboat, paid at the cave. Whether that is worth it is its own question; see is the Blue Grotto worth it. From October 16 the grotto opens only from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., so take the boat early.

If you want a smaller boat without a full-day package, You Know! runs a two-hour small-group ride from Marina Grande at €89, with a swim stop, drinks and limoncello. It starts at 1:30 p.m. and skips the Blue Grotto. That is a treat, not a saving.

• You are staying in Sorrento and want to swim. The small boats stop in coves the ferries never reach, and the Lubrense day includes 4 hours ashore. Our Capri boat tour page compares them.
• You want the Blue Grotto arranged. The €150 Viator day includes admission; if the grotto is shut you get a boat ride round the island instead.
• You do not want to deal with ferries. A tour leader, a booked minibus and no queue for the funicular are worth something to some travelers. Just know the price of that comfort. The same loop done yourself (fast ferry €43, landing €5, three bus or funicular rides at €2.40, the €2.50 Gardens of Augustus) comes to €57.70, so the €102 Worldtours day charges about €44 for the organizing.

Almost every other time. The ferry lets you choose your hours, go up to Anacapri and Monte Solaro, and come back on a later boat. Funicular and buses cost €2.40 a ride.
