Ferries to Capri, Ischia and Procida

Capri from €14.80, 57-82 min Capri levy €5, in the fare Last hydrofoil from Ischia 4:25

Three islands sit in the Bay of Naples and all three are a boat ride from the city center. Capri takes 57 minutes to about 1 hour 20 minutes, Procida 35 to 40 minutes by hydrofoil, Ischia a little over an hour. You do not need a tour to reach any of them: the public ferries are frequent, cheap by island standards and run from piers a 7-minute walk from Piazza Municipio.

What trips people up is not the price but the details. Two different piers serve the islands. Two kinds of boat run on each route, at different prices and speeds. Capri and Procida add a landing levy to your ticket. And in autumn the last fast boat back from Ischia or Procida leaves in the late afternoon. All fares and times below are from Caremar, NLG and Alilauro's own sites, with Caremar's timetable for Thursday, October 8, 2026 as the sample day. Timetables change with the season, so check again for your date.

Which pier: Molo Beverello or Porta di Massa

Naples has two passenger terminals for the islands, both along Via Marina at the foot of Piazza Municipio.

  • Molo Beverello, in front of Castel Nuovo, handles most hydrofoils and jets: NLG to Capri, Alilauro to Ischia and Sorrento, and Caremar's hydrofoils to Ischia and Procida. It is about 7 minutes' walk (497 m) from Municipio metro. The Alibus from the airport ends here.
  • Calata Porta di Massa, further east along the port, is Caremar's terminal for its car ferries to Capri, Ischia and Procida and for its fast ferry (TMV) to Capri. The Alibus stops at the Immacolatella / Porta di Massa gate on its way to Beverello. On foot it is a separate walk along the port: OpenStreetMap routing gives about 20 minutes from Beverello.

The pier is printed on your ticket. If you buy at one pier and your boat leaves from the other, you will miss it. Pozzuoli, west of the city on the Cumana railway, has the shortest and cheapest crossings to Procida and Ischia.

Caremar's timetable on October 8 showed ferries at 7:55 a.m., 12:40 p.m. and 7:10 p.m., and fast ferries at 5:35 a.m., 12 noon and 5:25 p.m. NLG's April 1 to November 3, 2026 timetable has ten jets from Beverello between 8:35 a.m. and 5:40 p.m. For a day trip, the NLG 8:35 or 9:30 a.m. is the practical choice; the Caremar slow ferry at 7:55 a.m. saves €10 each if you are up early.

Coming back on October 8, Caremar's last fast ferry left Capri at 8:17 p.m. and its last slow ferry at 2:30 p.m.; NLG's returns run from 9:53 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. Book the island itself with our Capri day trip page, and if you are weighing a boat tour, read Capri boat tour or just the ferry?

Procida and Ischia

Procida is the easiest island day from Naples. From Beverello, Caremar's hydrofoil costs €17.40 and takes 35–40 minutes; the ferry from Porta di Massa is €12.70 and about an hour. From Pozzuoli, the ferry is €9.50 (25–30 minutes) and the hydrofoil €10.70 (20 minutes). On October 8 the last Caremar hydrofoil from Procida to Naples left at 4:50 p.m., with ferries until 8:15 p.m. See Procida.

Ischia is bigger and slower to do in a day. Caremar's hydrofoil from Beverello is €21.60, about 1 hour 5 minutes; its ferry from Porta di Massa is €14.80 and takes 1 hour 30 to 1 hour 45 minutes. Alilauro charges about €23.90–€24.10 from Beverello, depending on the time, until November 3, 2026. From Pozzuoli, Caremar's ferry is €11.20, about 1 hour 10 minutes. The last Caremar hydrofoil back on October 8 left Ischia at 4:25 p.m.; the ferries ran until 8:20 p.m. SNAV also sails to Casamicciola. The Capri and Procida landing levies

Capri charges a landing contribution of €5 per person from April 1 to October 31 and €2.50 from November 1 to March 30, under decisions of Capri and Anacapri of January 12, 2024. The operators add it to fares from the mainland and between islands. It is not charged on the way back. Procida's landing charge on Caremar's fare list is €3.50.

You pay it once, inside the ticket price. Ignore any tour or agent that lists a separate "Capri landing fee" of €10: one listing we read did exactly that, and the official levy is €5 in season and already in your ferry fare.

Buying tickets: why the day itself is cheaper

Caremar's fare rules add 12% (minimum €1) to any ticket bought before the day of travel and €1 for buying online. On a €21.50 Capri fast ferry, booking the day before costs you about €2.60 more. Outside July, August and summer weekends, buying at the ticket office on the pier on the morning of travel is the cheapest option.

Pre-book when the date is fixed and the boat matters: a summer Saturday to Capri, a last boat back that you cannot miss, or a group. Get to the pier 20–30 minutes early, because there are queues at the ticket windows on busy mornings.

Weather, seasons and strikes

Hydrofoils and jets are the boats most likely to be cancelled when the sea is rough; the big car ferries cope with more weather. If the forecast is windy, choose a ferry, leave a margin before any evening train or flight, and have a back-up day. Services thin out after the season: NLG's current Capri timetable and Alilauro's Ischia and Sorrento fares run to November 3, 2026, and winter timetables had not been published on September 30.

The national strike on October 2, 2026 includes maritime transport. On strike days check the operator's site the evening before. For island hopping to Sorrento, Alilauro runs Beverello to Sorrento for €19, five times a day each way until November 3; see Sorrento.
