Cheap eats in Naples

La Masardona has fried pizza since 1945 in Case Nuove, the district behind the station. The completa with provola, ricotta, cicoli and pepper costs €6, or €3.50 as a battilocchio, which is small enough to try two fillings. Crocchè and frittatina are €2 each. The family publishes no hours; a 2022 listing had it closed on Sunday and shut by 3:30 p.m. except Saturday, so make it lunch on a Pompeii day.

1947 Pizza Fritta in Forcella, between the Teatro Trianon and Da Michele, sells a marinara fritta for €6, a completa for €7 and a classic cuoppo for €6, on a menu that also mentions a winter 2025–26 promotion. Sorbillo's Zia Esterina counters charge €7 for a fried pizza. Skip the sit-down room at Di Matteo; its street window is fine if you are passing, but these do it better.

The pizza folded in four and eaten walking is the cheapest pizza in Naples, and the hardest to price. In 2019 Dissapore reported it had settled at €1.50 to €2, rarely still €1. We found no pizzeria that publishes a 2026 portafoglio price. Gambero Rosso's 2024 list of the best includes Antica Pizzeria Port'Alba on Via Port'Alba 18 and San Gennaro on Via Mezzocannone 129. Ask the price before it is folded, and expect a small margherita rather than a full one.

• Sfogliatella Mary, Galleria Umberto I 66: a warm sfogliatella in the arcade by Plebiscito, €2 to €4 a pastry in a 2026 guide. A kiosk, no seats.
• SfogliateLab: €2 for a riccia, a frolla or a babà, at Piazza Garibaldi and Piazza Dante.
• Scaturchio, Piazza San Domenico Maggiore 19: dearer at €2.50 to €5 a pastry, but the only place for the Ministeriale chocolate medallion.
• Poppella, Rione Sanità: the fiocco di neve, €1.50 when last reported in 2024. Good on the Sanità walk; not worth a special trip or a long queue.

Coffee: Caffè Mexico at Piazza Dante charges €1.20 to €2 at the bar, per a 2026 guide. Pay at the till, hand over the receipt, drink standing. The Professore's caffè alla nocciola, up to €3.50, is a dessert in a cup; for a plain espresso go elsewhere.

Da Michele is the cheapest famous sit-down meal: a pizza at €6.50 plus the €1 cover, a half-liter of water €2. Go near 11 a.m. or mid-afternoon to skip the worst of the queue. Sorbillo's marinara is €5.50, and it sells a pizza sospesa for €5, paid forward for someone who cannot afford one.

For pasta, Tandem serves a scarpetta, a bowl of ragù or genovese with bread, for €10 on its July 2026 menu, plus a €2.50 cover. Nennella on Piazza Carità served a first course, second and side for €15 in 2024 reports: go for the singing waiters and the price, not for the best cooking in town.

• The branch by the sea. La Masardona's Piazza Vittoria shop charges €9 for the completa that costs €6 at Case Nuove: 50 percent more for the view.
• The seafood cuoppo. At €10 to €13 it should be fish fried that morning. Ask what is in it; the €6 land cuoppo is the safer buy.
• The chair. A seated coffee at a famous cafe is a different purchase. A 2017 review paid €16 at the Gambrinus for a brioche and two ginseng coffees.
• The smart pizzeria's fried pizza. €18 at Concettina ai Tre Santi is fair only split three ways.
• The cover. Read the bottom of the menu: €1 to €2.50 a head adds up for a family.
