A cuoppo is not a dish but a container: a cone of rolled paper, filled with whatever the shop fries. The land version mixes crocchè (potato croquettes), small arancini, frittatine, battered vegetables and, at some shops, zeppoline (fried dough balls). The sea version holds small fish, squid and shrimp.
On menus checked September 30, 2026, La Masardona in Case Nuove sells a cuoppo of 12 pieces for €6. 1947 Pizza Fritta in Forcella charges €6 for its classic cuoppo, €7 with a mini fried pizza topped with ragù, €10 for small fried fish and €13 for shrimp and squid.

In 2019 Dissapore put cuoppi at up to €6–€7, so land prices have barely moved. Single pieces, if you would rather pick, cost €2–€2.50 each at the same counters.
Land or sea?
Land is the safe choice: everything in it is fried to order from dough, potato, rice or pasta, and it holds its crunch for ten minutes. Sea depends on the fish. Fragaglie are tiny whole fish, eaten bones and all. Squid rings and shrimp are the tourist favorite. Ask "fresco di oggi?" (fresh today?) and look at the tray.

How to eat it
- Walk and eat. A cuoppo is designed to be carried, and the paper soaks up some of the oil.
- Order it just fried. If the counter has a pile waiting, ask them to fry a fresh batch; at a busy shop it takes a few minutes.
- Start from the top: the pieces at the bottom soak up oil and steam.
- Squeeze of lemon on the seafood one; ask for it.
- Pair it with a cold beer or a soft drink from the same counter, then a pizza fritta if you are still hungry.

If the fish was fried that morning, yes. Look at the tray and ask; stale fried fish is chewy and heavy.
