Starhotels Terminus

Why stay by the station
Everything leaves from this square. The mainline trains to Rome leave from Napoli Centrale. The Circumvesuviana to Herculaneum, Pompeii and Sorrento stops at Napoli Garibaldi, under the square. Metro Line 1 (Garibaldi) runs to Duomo, Universita, Municipio and Toledo; Line 2 crosses the city to Piazza Amedeo and Mergellina.
If your plan is an 8 a.m. train to Pompeii, a morning ferry from Sorrento, or a late arrival from Rome, that saves you real time. If your plan is dinner in the Centro Storico every night, Piazza del Gesu Nuovo is 28 minutes on foot (2.1 km), or one stop on Line 1 to Duomo and a walk.

Add the city tax of €6 per person per night. Breakfast was not part of any of these rates; the Odeon restaurant serves Neapolitan and international dishes.
The square at night, plainly
Piazza Garibaldi is a transport hub first. It is crowded, noisy with traffic and buses, and has the mixture of travellers, street sellers and people waiting around that big stations have everywhere. The UK government's travel advice for Italy tells visitors to take care in main train and metro stations, where pickpocketing and bag-snatching are the risks. Keep your phone and wallet out of back pockets and your bag zipped in the station and on the metro.
At night the square stays busy with arrivals, and the hotel's door is on it. The walk you should avoid is a long late one on foot through the side streets toward the old town: take Line 1 or a taxi instead. Our station area page says who should and should not stay here.
Check for strikes before you book an early train
Italy's transport ministry publishes every announced strike. On September 30, 2026 it listed a national multi-sector strike on October 2 (rail from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.), a four-hour stoppage by EAV rail staff in Naples on October 16 from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., and a general strike on December 4 covering rail from 9 p.m. on December 3 to 9 p.m. on December 4. EAV runs the Circumvesuviana.
Who should book it, and who should not
Book it for a first or last night around a train or a flight, for a base built on day trips to Pompeii, Herculaneum and Sorrento, or if price matters more than atmosphere: €141 in November for a four-star is hard to beat. If you fly between November 1 and 30, 2026, check your booking: Capodichino is closed for runway works and some flights move to Salerno airport (see getting to Naples). Do not book it for a romantic city break, for a trip where you plan to walk home from the old town late every night, or if the bustle of a big station square will spoil your evening. For those trips, the Decumani or the Il Convento cost little more.
