Ischia

Ischia has three arrival ports: Ischia Porto, Casamicciola and, for some fast boats, Forio. On the operators' pages for early October 2026:

Alilauro's fares vary by time band. Caremar adds 12% (minimum €1) if you buy before the day of travel and €1 per ticket online. From Pozzuoli, the port is on the Cumana railway and Metro Line 2; the Cumana has run its full route again since September 11, 2026, after quake damage to a tunnel. EAV runs Ischia's buses. Fares: €1.70 single, €2.10 for an hour, €5.10 for a day. Buy before boarding at newsstands and tobacconists; EAV publishes a list of sales points on the island. Useful lines on the timetables in force from September 2026:

• Line 1 Ischia Porto-Casamicciola-Lacco Ameno-Forio-Sant'Angelo (Cava Grado), frequent all day; Ischia Porto to Forio 20 to 25 minutes.
• Line 2 Ischia Porto to Citara for Giardini Poseidon, 33 minutes, every 15 to 30 minutes.
• Line 5 Ischia Porto to the Maronti beach.
• Line 177 from the port to Ischia Ponte for the Castello Aragonese, about 15 minutes.

Taxis wait at the ports. Agree the price before you set off.

Pick one of these, not all three:

1. History day: hydrofoil to Ischia Porto, bus 177 or a 20 to 30 minute walk to Ischia Ponte, the Castello Aragonese (€15, open 9 a.m. to sunset), lunch in Ischia Ponte, back on an afternoon boat.
2. Spa day: boat to Ischia Porto, line 2 to Citara, a day at Giardini Poseidon (€50, or €45 from 12:30 p.m. in October). Only until October 31.
3. Village day: line 1 to Sant'Angelo, a fishing village at the end of the line, and a walk to the Maronti beach.

Even by hydrofoil, the round trip is more than two hours on the water before you add buses and getting to the port. That is why the island rewards a night or two. Compare with the other islands in Capri, Ischia or Procida.

• Cost: Ischia's buses are €1.70 against Capri's €2.40, and there is no landing contribution listed by Caremar for Ischia, against €5 on Capri until October 31.
• Size: Ischia is much larger, with long beaches; Capri is compact and steep.
• Style: Capri is glamour and famous views; Ischia is spas, family holidays and local life.
• Season: both quieten from November, but Ischia's thermal parks close for the winter, so its main draw goes with them.

Ischia and Procida are next to each other: Caremar runs Ischia to Procida ferries (€9.40) and hydrofoils (€10.50), so a two-island trip works well.

September and October are warm, the sea is still swimmable for many, and the thermal parks are open. At Giardini Poseidon hours shorten from October 1 (9 a.m. to 6 p.m.) and the season ends October 31. The Castello Aragonese closes for maintenance from January 7 to early March. In winter, boats run less often and crossings can be canceled in rough seas, so keep a margin before any flight home.

Forio: Ischia Island Boat Tour with Local Lunch and Swimming

Starts at the Cristoforo Colombo car park in Forio, so the ferry to Ischia and the trip across the island are yours to arrange. No hotel pickup. The route changes with the sea.
